Bombay High Court issues notice to BMC over temporary shed built for Crawford Market traders

The Bombay High Court recently (December 20) issued notice on Public Interest Litigation (PIL) alleging that Mumbai Municipal Corporation has constructed a temporary bamboo shed without complying with the statutory requisites. The PIL has been filed by one Kamlakar R. Shenoy. According to the PIL , to temporarily accommodate traders who have been carrying on business at the Crowford Market building, a portion whereof is being renovated, the Mumbai Municipal Corporation has constructed a temporary bamboo shed. The Petitioner alleged that such shed has been constructed without complying with the statutory requisites. Allahabad High Court says arrest should be last option for police, grants anticipatory bail to dowry case accused

Allahabad High Court has said that arrest should be made only if it is necessary for interrogation in police custody for investigation.  The court said that this should be the last option and unnecessary arrest is a violation of human rights. A Single Bench of Justice Ajit Singh passed this order while hearing a Criminal Misc Anticipatory Bail Application under Sections 438 CrPC filed by Rahul Gandhi. A petition has been filed in Supreme Court on Wednesday seeking suo motu cognizance of the doctors’ protest and directing the Centre to form a committee to address the issue. Advocate Vineet Jindal has filed a petition demanding a day-to-day hearing of NEET-PG reservation matters in court. The plea highlighted the issue of the clashes between the protesting resident doctors with the police and the delay in counseling for admission to NEET-PG courses. The petition focuses on the need to address doctors’ issues as soon as possible in the backdrop of the looming Omicron threat. The plea demands action against police personnel who have misbehaved with the doctors. Centre notifies rules for consumer protection, direct selling entities not to promote pyramid schemes

The Central Government on Tuesday has notified the rules for Consumer Protection. The Ministry Of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Department of Consumer Affairs by exercising the powers conferred by clause (zg) of sub-section (2) of section 101 read with section 94 of the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, has made the Consumer Protection rules. The rules notified by the Centre to be called as Consumer Protection (Direct Selling) Rules, 2021. The Central government prohibited direct selling companies from promoting Pyramid Schemes. The notification also prohibits any person from enrolling into such a scheme in order to undertake direct selling business. The Consumer Protection (Direct Selling) Rules, 2021 further prohibits participation in money circulation schemes by such sellers and directs them to comply with the given rules within three months from the date of publication of the Consumer Protection (Direct Selling) Rules, 2021 in the Official Gazette i.e., December 28...
