The Allahabad High Court has sought a response from the state government on a petition challenging the direction issued by the Director, Horticulture and Food Processing. The Division Bench of Justice Manoj Misra and Justice Vikas Budhwar passed this order while hearing a petition filed by Godawari Poultry Farmers Welfare Association. The petitioner claims itself to be an association of Poultry Farmers registered under the Society Registration Act, 1860. The Delhi High Court has passed an interim order today that restrains the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and its leaders from making any allegations against Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena. Justice Amit Bansal in his order has mentioned that the AAP leaders need to take down some of the defamatory tweets posted by AAP leaders Sanjay Singh, Atishi and Saurabh Bhardwaj from their account on urgent basis. The Government of India has apprised the Madras High Court that Isha Foundation, founded by Jaggi Vasudev, did not need prior environmental clearance for carrying out construction work between 2006 and 2014 at its premises in Coimbatore district. The Bench of Acting Chief Justice T Raja and Justice D Krishna Kumar were on Monday hearing a petition filed by Jaggi Vasudev, popularly known as Sadhguru, challenging the notice issued by the Tamil Nadu government to the foundation in January this year. The state government, while taking note of the fact that the foundation had not taken the mandatory environmental clearance under the Union government’s Environment Impact Assessment Notification of 2006 for construction work in the Ashram’s area, had initiated prosecution against it. The name of Chief Justice of Bombay High Court, Dipankar Datta, has been recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium for elevation as judge of the Supreme Court. The Collegium took the decision during its meeting held on September 26. A notification issued by the Apex Court said, “The Supreme Court Collegium, in its meeting held on 26th September, 2022, has recommended elevation of Justice Dipankar Datta, Chief Justice (PHC: Calcutta), as Judge of Bombay High Court (PHC: Calcutta), as Judge of the Supreme Court. Calcutta, as Judge of India.” Datta was born in 1965 in a family having legal background. The Supreme on Monday has asked for the Central government and the Election Commission of India (ECI) to respond in a public interest litigation (PIL) petition which challenges exclusion of north-eastern States from delimitation exercise. A Bench comprising of Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice Hima Kohli have issued notice on the PIL filed by Congress leader Padi Richo and tagged it with a similar petition pending before the Court. The petition that has been filed challenges two notifications issued by the Ministry of Law and Justice. The first notification that it challenges was issued on March 6, 2020. It constituted a Delimitation Commission for the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir and for the States of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Nagaland. A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court, seeking directions to bring policing reforms in Uttarakhand, in the light of murder of a 19-year-old receptionist, who was allegedly killed by a BJP leader in his resort in the hill state. Filed by an Uttarakhand-based journalist, the matter was mentioned before a Bench headed by Chief Justice Uday Umesh Lalit. The Bench has directed the lawyer to mention the matter again tomorrow with details of the pending case in the Supreme Court. Raising the matter, Advocate Rituparn Unniyal said had there been policing system reforms in Uttarakhand, the murder of Ankita Bhandari would not have taken place.
