As part of the ongoing pan India campaign, Justice Uday Umesh Lalit inaugurated a mega legal services camp at Kanyakumari, which was hosted by the Tamil Nadu State Legal Services Authority in association with the local District Administration. The inauguration commenced with Justice Lalit flagging off 5 mobile vans, which would travel through various parts of Tamil Nadu and would spread awareness about legal services that are made available to common people by the legal services institutions. Speaking at the occasion, Justice Lalit said that the pandemic has not dampened the spirits of the legal services institutions and that the pandemic has rather lifted our spirits to render more and better services. As a result of the pandemic, there are large numbers of victims, who have actually faced the brunt of the situation. Allahabad HC directs special court to decide Rs 9.25 lakh cheque bounce case within two months

The Allahabad High Court has asked the Special Court, Negotiable Instruments Act, Prayagraj, to decide the cheque bounce case of Rs 9.25 lakh within two months. A single-judge bench of Justice Rajiv Gupta passed this order while hearing an application under Section 482 CrPC filed by one Dharmendra Singh. The bench noted, “The court below is directed to make all endeavours to decide the aforesaid case as expeditiously as possible, preferably within a period of two months from the date of filing of certified copy of the order without giving any unnecessary adjournments to either parties, if there is no other legal impediment in deciding the case. With the aforesaid direction, the application under Section 482 CrPC is finally disposed of.” The counsel appearing on behalf of the applicant has submitted that the execution case in the complaint case is pending since March 2, 2020 and the proceeding has been lingering on, on one pretext or the other. Madhya Pradesh HC dismisses PIL over encroachment removal from temple premises in Singrauli district

The Madhya Pradesh High Court has recently dismissed a PIL seeking to remove encroachment from temple premises in Village Ghinhagaon, P.S. Barganvan, Tehsil Devsar, District Singrauli, Madhya Pradesh. The petitioner, Prakash Narayan Pandey, has also prayed for quashing of the impugned order dated February 25, 2020 passed by Collector Singrauli that there cannot be an order for removal of encroachment of the temple or its surrounding land. The petitioner is aggrieved with the action whereby the Collector has refused to remove the encroachment of the private respondents from temple premises. According to the petitioner, he is the complainant in the present case and he has filed a complaint before the respondent regarding encroachment by private respondents in the government land, but after passing the order, the respondent has failed to exercise its jurisdiction/power to remove the encroachment. The Allahabad High Court has said that having sex before marriage with a major may not be an offence but is unethical, immoral given Indian customs and tradition. A single-judge bench of Justice Rahul Chaturvedi said this while rejecting the bail application of a man who has been arrested under POCSO Act provisions for having sex with a minor and standing a mute spectator to the minor being gang-raped by three others. Justice Chaturvedi said, “The conduct of the applicant is highly deplorable and unbecoming of a boyfriend who could not save his girlfriend from these offenders. Aryan Khan back home after spending more than 3 weeks in Mumbai’s Arthur Road Jail

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan Khan walked out of Mumbai’s Arthur Road Jail on Saturday after spending more than 3 weeks in jail following his arrest in an alleged drugs case. Aryan Khan was released two days after the Bombay High Court granted him bail in the case. He had been granted bail on Thursday but had spent two more nights in jail as his bail papers missed the deadline. The city NDPS Court also granted bail to alleged drug peddler Aachit Kumar and 6 others arrested in a drugs case, in which Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan Khan is one of the accused. Aryan Khan has been released on bail with 14 conditions. If he violates any of them, then the NCB is entitled to apply for cancellation of bail straightaway. Patiala House Court orders 12 years imprisonment for 2 Hizbul Mujahideen members over terror funding

A Patiala House Court has sentenced two Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) members to 12 years imprisonment and 10-year terms to other members convicted for terror funding and waging war against the Government of India. A single-judge bench of Additional Sessions Judge Parveen Singh observed, “The convicts who have primarily been convicted for terror financing have provided funds for the activities of HM and said funds have been used for the destruction of property and taking human lives. A Delhi lawyer, Vineet Jindal, has filed a police complaint against the Jawaharlal Nehru University’s Centre for Women Studies and the organisers of the webinar “Gendered Resistance & Fresh Challenges in Post-2019 Kashmir” for allegedly using phrase “gendered resistance to Indian occupation in Kashmir” in the notice for the webinar. The JNU’s Centre for Women Studies and organizers of the webinar called for gender resistance and fresh challenges in post ‐2019 Kashmir under Section 121A, 124A, 505 of IPC and 74 of IT act 2008. According to the complainant, a webinar in the name of ‘Gender Resistance and Fresh Challenges in Post 2019 Kashmir’ was to be organized by the Center for Women Studies on October 29, 2021 at 8.30 PM and the details of the said webinar were also available on the JNU website. Tripura communal violence: HC tells state govt to act against social media spreading fake news, videos

The Tripura High Court on Friday directed the Tripura government to initiate action against all social media platforms that continue to carry posts that are false, fictitious and or fabricated articles or visual footage and to see to it that such false news is removed at the earliest.  The Court registered the suo motu public interest litigation on the basis of various press reports both in national newspapers as well as local newspapers on violence that broke out on October 26, 2021 in North Tripura District, Unakoti District as well as Sipahijala District.  After the  Advocate General brought to the notice of the Division Bench of Chief Justice Indrajit Mahanty and Justice S. Talapatra the developments, the Court indicated to the Advocate General its sole concern i.e. the protection of life, liberty and property of all citizens of Tripura.
